Wellness CareExam Room

Education and preventative care is very important to us and can help keep your pet healthy. Starting from a young age, we recommend and discuss preventative medicine that can save your pet from painful, possibly fatal, and expensive diseases.

Heartworm Disease - This disease is transmitted to your pet through a mosquito bite, can be fatal, and cost over $1000 to treat.

  • Heartworms in the dog used to be rare in the Phoenix area but has now become a serious threat over the past few years.
  • We have seen multiple cases in the last year.
  • Prevention - easy with a once monthly flavored chewable.
  • Testing - Your dog needs an initial test before starting prevention, and a test once a year thereafter (recommended by the American Heartworm Associaton).  This test only takes 8-10 minutes and can be done through a doctor appointment or our convenient technician appointments.
Fleas & Ticks - Do we really see fleas or ticks in our local area?
  • Yes!  Tick fever ("Ehrlichiosis") is a very common disease here and infection is found regularly in Phoenix dogs.  Most owners of infected dogs state that they never saw a tick on their pet.
  • Prevention is easy! It just takes a monthly dose of Frontline® or Advantix® (drop of liquid on the back of the neck) that can be prescribed by one of our veterinarians.

Senior Wellness

What is Senior "Wellness" ?

When our beloved pets reach 7 years or older they are considered a 'senior'. Since our pets age so much faster than us, this is thePuppytime when health issues start occuring.  Symptoms can be subtle or non-existent so we need simple screening tests to help detect problems.

What does testing involve?

Testing can be as simple as a quick blood draw during a doctor or technician appointment.

What if a problem is found in those test results?

Some issues, such as a thryoid hormone inbalance,  can be fixed with a simple daily supplement. Our doctors can help form a treatment plan for whatever your pet needs to be happier and healthier, that also fits your lifestyle and budget.
